The rhythmic repetition of words or phrases, usually done in conjunction with dancing, drumming, rattling and hand-clapping, is a primitive way to alter consciousness and raise power. The chants, along with the dancing, drumming, hand-clapping or other accompaniment, are gradually speeded up in temp until a peak state is reached.

Overview

Since ancient times around the world, chanting has been part of religious, ceremonial and magical rites. In ancient Greece, female sorcerers were said to howl their magical chants. Early and medieval sorcerers and magicians also chanted their incantations in howls and forceful voices, a practice carried into the 20th century by magicians such as as Alester Crowly, who believed that the sound of words profoundly affects both man and universe.[1]
